"Our Approach - Regulations"
- Environmental policies are the rules and regulations that aim to protect the environment from pollution, climate change, and other harms. There are many environmental policies that have been enacted or proposed in different countries and regions, such as the US, the EU, China, and India. Some of the new rules on environmental policies that have been introduced or are expected to be implemented in 2023 are:
- The US President signed an executive order to revitalize the nationβs commitment to environmental justice for all, which directs federal agencies to consider the environmental and health impacts of their actions on overburdened communities and to ensure that all people have a right to breathe clean air, drink clean water, and live in a healthy environment1
- The EU adopted a new climate law that sets a legally binding target of reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels, and achieving climate neutrality by 2050. The law also establishes a European Scientific Advisory Board on Climate Change and a mechanism for monitoring and reviewing the progress of EU and national policies.
- China announced its 14th Five-Year Plan, which outlines its economic and social development goals for 2021-2025, including its environmental and climate objectives. The plan aims to peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060, as well as to increase the share of non-fossil fuels in primary energy consumption to around 20% by 2025. The plan also sets targets for improving air quality, water quality, and biodiversity.
- India launched the National Hydrogen Energy Mission, which aims to promote the production and use of green hydrogen, a clean and renewable energy source, in various sectors such as industry, transport, and power. The mission is expected to help India meet its climate commitments under the Paris Agreement and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.
- These are some of the new rules on environmental policies that are being implemented or planned in different parts of the world. They reflect the growing awareness and urgency of addressing the environmental challenges that we face today and in the future. π
